Van Polen speaks of ‘bonus points’ against AZ: ‘Last week we were dead and buried’ PEC Zwolle

After the defeat in the IJsselderby last week, the whole of Zwolle was in sack and ashes, but after the 2-1 victory over AZ, PEC is alive again in the fight against relegation. Bram van Polen also thought that PEC should win this match. “We needed this to be able to play a significant role.”

“This one is very tasty,” said the broad-smiling captain of the Zwolle team. “Last week we were dead and buried, now we’re back. I would have rather won last week, that was a game that we really had to win. You play for bonus points against AZ and we needed them to be able to play a bit of a meaningful role.”

,,Both teams were not very good at football”, Van Polen begins his analysis of the first half. ,,We mainly played the long ball and then bet on the second ball. That’s nice for us to grow in the competition. They started a little better in the second half, but at times we really had the upper hand.”

The equalizer of Vangelis Pavlidis ten minutes before time, after Gervane Kastaneer had headed the home team ahead shortly after the break, hit the people of Zwolle hard. “I saw the heads go down again. I was mainly busy yelling at things,” said Van Polen, who saw that his team was setting up and still managed to get the better of it via Daishawn Redan. ,,I thought we should have made it 2-0 long ago. But this one is really tasty. I’m going to open a bottle of wine tonight, we earned that today.”
