Van Nistelrooij signs a three-year contract with PSV: ‘Was always my goal’

It is no longer a big surprise, but on Wednesday evening it was confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooij will be the new PSV trainer. He signs a three-year contract in Eindhoven. The current trainer of Jong PSV indicates that talks with Marcel Brands have been decisive.

Earlier this year, Ruud van Nistelrooij indicated that he was not ready for the step to PSV 1. But after the appointment of general manager Marcel Brands, the situation changed.

“The appointment of Marcel Brands as General Manager of PSV and the conversation I had with him gave me the last push to now take this step with full conviction. PSV is taking a new path this summer and I want to be part of that.” “Conversations with the entire management and Supervisory Board have strengthened my image of the unity and ambition to achieve something special with PSV in the long term. I am ready to lead the club as head coach,” says Van Nistelrooij on the PSV website.

In Eindhoven he signs a contract until the summer of 2025. For the Geffenaar, it is a dream come true. “My goal has always been to be the head coach at PSV.”

Marcel Brands therefore gave the final push to Van Nistelrooij, who also realizes that a coaching career cannot be directed. “I was convinced that I could completely direct my own coaching career and that required an extra season of experience as a trainer of Jong PSV. But it turns out that it is not possible to direct. Now is the time.”
