A striking ice sculpture by Vincent van Gogh has been on display in Veenoord since today. “I first started with a traditional snowman, but then I got the idea to make something different. Ultimately I chose Van Gogh, because he was also here for a number of months,” says maker Arno Vos.

Creating the artwork was a big job. “It was quite big and every now and then I really had to take a picture. In the end it took me four hours, with some coffee breaks in between,” says Vos.

Many people now come by to view the work. “I already received a lot of thumbs up from people while I was making it. That’s really nice. Normally I work in woodworking, but I don’t make things like that. But I enjoy being creative,” says Vos.

He does not rule out whether there will also be a Rembrandt in Veenoord later this week: “I just have to go back to work tomorrow. But maybe next weekend.”

For now, he hopes the sculpture will remain standing for a while.
