Michael van Gerwen has reached the semi-finals of the Darts World Cup in London. The darts player from Vlijmen defeated the Englishman Callan Rydz 5-3 in a high-quality quarter-final on Wednesday afternoon. Thanks to this victory, Van Gerwen is still on course for a fourth world title.

Van Gerwen and Rydz achieved a high level and both scored an average of 103 points with three arrows. Mighty Mike hit the maximum score of 180 fourteen times on this New Year’s afternoon. Rydz even seventeen times.

The match went evenly until 2-2 in sets. Van Gerwen then ran out to 4-2 in sets.

Rydz, however, did not give up easily and took set seven to come back to 4-3. This brought the tension back into the party.

Mighty Mike will now face Englishman Chris Dobey in the semi-finals on Thursday. He defeated Gerwyn Price from Wales in the first quarter-final on Wednesday afternoon.

Dobey performs above expectations at the World Cup. He is placed fifteenth, while Van Gerwen is number 3 on the placement list.
