JYP’s Valtteri Ojantakane is approaching the 2000s single-season goals record in the hockey SM league.
The 25-year-old winger has scored 34 goals in 54 matches this past season. The youngster, who leads the goal exchange, has a total of 51 power points, with which he ranks ninth in the regular season point exchange.
Odantakanen is only three goals away Janne Lahten from the record he set in the 2010–11 season. Lahti scored 37 goals in 59 matches in the Joker’s shirt. Odantakas still has six regular season matches to break the record.
Arto Javanainen, who scored 47 goals in 44 games for TPS in the 1987–88 season, holds the record for goals in one season in the entire league history. The reading is no longer very comparable to the results of modern hockey.
Tappara’s Benjamin Rautiainen is also approaching one of the records of the 21st century, when the 20-year-old forward crossed the 70-point mark in Wednesday night’s match against Jukurei. In the league, the last time the limit of 70 power points was broken was in the 2007–08 season, when Kärppien’s Janne Pesonen scored 78 and Jokerei’s Ville Leino 77.
Tappara has six regular season games left, so Rautiainen still has a chance to break the 2000s power point record.
