How do you rate Viktoria Köln’s squad?
The pillars of the past season have been retained, with the exception of the departures of Kai Klefisch and Moritz Nicolas, the core staff has remained. With Marcel Risse (photo) and Jamil Siebert, two top performers could be retained. In terms of new signings, five players have come from their own U19s, with David Kubatta in particular, they were able to bring a central defender who is already very mature for his age into the first team.

Where do you see a need for improvement by Deadline Day?
Only in the striker position has there been a need for improvement for over a year. The candidate they were looking for was found in Robin Meißner, but HSV initially vetoed it. With the transfer that has meanwhile been completed, readjustments have been made, but there is certainly still room for improvement in this position.
What do you expect from the playful appearance of the team?
The team will probably appear in Olaf Janßen’s favorite system, the 4-2-3-1, with enormous pressing. In preparation, there was even extreme pressure against Mönchengladbach. The system is mostly used as the Viktoria have very nimble wingers in their ranks in Simon Handle, Simon Stehle, Kevin Lankford and Youssef Amyn.
What’s in store for Viktoria Köln over the entire season?
After three seasons in 12th or 13th place, you should slowly and carefully look up. A one-digit place in the table should be realistic if the team harmonizes quickly and is not penultimate after nine games like last year. Perhaps the cup cracker against Bayern, for which more than 40,000 tickets have already been sold, will spark a positive mood. 9th place sounds realistic.
