User opinion Dynamo Dresden: Trainer Markus Anfang has to prove himself

Fan series for the 3rd division

With the help of the community, Transfermarkt will take a detailed look at the 56 teams in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3 in the coming weeks. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most, where is there room for improvement and what is in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? We asked around in the forums and got our opinions – in league three we continue with user “SGD_Strike” and Dynamo Dresden.

How do you rate the Dynamo Dresden squad?

Well, here we are again. After just one season, the trip to the 2nd Bundesliga is over. Far too short if you ask a Dynamo fan, but totally deserved. After all, you have to manage to stay the entire second half of the season, including the relegation, without a win. Remaining from the squad of this sporting catastrophe are eleven players who will certainly form the core of the team thanks to their experience in the second division. For me, Tim Knipping and Michael Akoto stand out as important pillars, both of whom are actually too good for the 3rd division and will give our defense the necessary stability. But such a descent, including marginal phenomena, does something to you. Whether the heads are free again remains to be seen.

The places in the gate had to be completely reoccupied. With Stefan Drljaca and Sven Müller, two goalkeepers with experience in the third division could be signed for the position, of which Drljaca is slightly ahead for me after the preparation. Especially when playing with the ball, he has a lot ahead of his competitors.

The defense is undoubtedly of high quality. Knipping, Kevin Ehlers and Robin Becker have second division experience. In addition to the additions of Claudio Kammerknecht, Kyu-hyun Park and Jonathan Meier, who was already an important part of the last promotion, this is qualitatively at the top of the 3rd division. The vacancy at right-back was filled by Ukraine’s Kyrylo Melichenko, who has been training with the team for several months and has performed well.

The midfield is quantitatively good, if not overstaffed. The problem is that we have a lot of similar types of players here. The last season showed: there is a lack of physicality and goal danger. Akoto’s move to the six-man position should bring additional stability and the signing of Ahmet Arslan should bring more experience and creativity up front. I also keep a special eye on loanee Jong-min Seo. He has an excellent feel for the ball and excellent shooting technique and could eliminate the lack of goal threat. Unfortunately, Seo is out for several months with a broken ankle.

Offensively they have strengthened on the wings with Christian Conteh and Dennis Borkowski, both of whom indicated in the first game what an asset they could be. Together with Panagiotis Vlachodimos and Oliver Batista Meier we are pretty well positioned there. In the center, Manuel Schäffler was brought in shortly before the start of the season. Together with Stefan Kutschke, Dynamo has two very robust strikers who are past their prime. Whether they are able to build on past goal quotas is at least questionable. Behind them, Phil Harres, a young player who developed well in Ulm last season, is shuffling his hooves.

Where do you see a need to catch up by Deadline Day?

Basically, I see the squad in good shape, but there are problems above all in the basic susceptibility to injury of the players and the age structure of the squad. If you look at the latter, it is noticeable that the majority of players are 23 years old or younger. Young players always have fluctuations in performance, which means there is a lack of players who can be expected to perform consistently in every game and thus give the team stability throughout the season.

What’s in it for Dynamo Dresden in 2022/23?

When talking about the Dynamo squad, one person shouldn’t be ignored: Coach Markus Anfang. Committed with a lot of fuss, he is probably the most well-known person on the sidelines of the 3rd division. And it will also largely depend on him how much Dynamo achieves this season. How quickly can he form a team out of the players? Teach them his 4-1-4-1, which was successful in Kiel? Sweep the descent out of your mind? Bring the old hands to new top performances? Develop the young players? Reintegrate the long-term injured? And of course: Has he himself learned from the past?

The expectations of him are high and the challenges great. How many question marks can begin turn into an exclamation mark? It will depend on what is possible this season. The quality in the squad is certainly enough to play for promotion. You also have space and money to make another commitment. In which position will only show after the first games.
