User-opinion 1860 Munich: The rise is to come in the third attempt

Fan series for the 3rd division

With the help of the community, Transfermarkt will take a detailed look at the 56 teams in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3 in the coming weeks. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most, where is there room for improvement and what is in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? For this we asked around in the forums and picked up assessments – in league three it continues with user “Jojo1860” and TSV 1860 Munich.

That is the starting position at TSV 1860 Munich

After two fourth places this season, promotion is essential. Everyone agrees on that – president, sporting director, coaches, sponsors and fans. Right from the start, the big goal was offensively formulated by those responsible. Big words were quickly followed by big deeds. Even before the start of the training camp, nine new players were signed, including some well-known names. After having relied on continuity in the previous season, which ultimately did not pay off, this time a medium-sized upheaval was forced. Some important players were deliberately parted with in order to be able to rebuild the squad and set new impulses. Coach Michael Köllner is happy that all his transfer requests have been fulfilled.

How do you rate the TSV 1860 Munich squad?

Jesper Verlaat, previously defense chief of competitor Waldhof Mannheim, is expected to make former defense chief Stephan Salger forget. Joseph Boyamba (also came from Mannheim), together with Albion Vrenezi (from Türkgücü Munich) and Martin Kobylanski (from Eintracht Braunschweig), should ensure that our offensive becomes even more variable and dangerous. In the front line, Fynn Lakenmacher (came from Havelse) and Meris Skenderovic (came from Schweinfurt) should relieve last year’s top scorer Marcel Bär. The defensive was strengthened in addition to Verlaat with the Verler perennial favorite Christopher Lannert and the returnee Tim Rieder. On paper, these transfers across the board read very well. For each position there are now at least two third division players available.

Where do you see a need for improvement by Deadline Day?

Nevertheless, I would still wish for a certain player: Moritz Leitner. The homecoming of the prodigal son would not only be a fine thing from a romantic point of view. In terms of player type, I think Leitner would fit in perfectly with our team.

At the moment I have the feeling that we are a bit too aggressive and that there is a certain imbalance. I would trust a central midfielder like Leitner, who thinks defensively and is very sure of the ball, to play a key role in the statics of our game. Nevertheless, I am aware that Leitner, as a former German and reigning Swiss champion, will probably be difficult to finance. But maybe the connection to his home club will help.

What do you expect from the playful appearance of the team?

The technically adept Leitner would also fit in with “Sechzig” because the “Löwen” under Köllner, in contrast to the majority of the league, celebrate active possession football. If possible, playful solutions should be found. In this regard, I have particularly high hopes for newcomer Kobylanski, who, with his excellent technical skills and direct play, could play a key role when it comes to undermining compact defensive sections. In the game against the ball, Köllner tries to actively forecheck, which should lead to winning the ball as early as possible in the opponent’s half.

What’s in it for 1860 Munich in 2022/23?

The goals are clearly set: the rise is to come. In view of the very well staffed squad and the large club environment, this goal does not seem presumptuous. Nevertheless, some question marks remain. 1860 was also the absolute top favorite for many in the pre-season, but could not live up to the high expectations, especially in the weak first half of the season. When putting together the new squad, special attention was paid to character strength and a winning mentality. Will the team withstand the pressure better now?

With all the prominent newcomers, it shouldn’t be forgotten that we lost four important players in Stephan Salger, Dennis Dressel, Richard Neudecker and Merv Biankadi. Especially in the central midfield, it will only become clear whether the newcomers really adequately compensate for the lost quality or even surpass it. After all, with “sixty” there is always the question of what the mood is in the environment. There is a lot of euphoria at the moment. Nevertheless, the high expectations are hanging over the club like the sword of Damocles. Also due to the very offensive communication of Köllner & Co., a great unrest with a botched start to the season seems almost inevitable. Those responsible would hardly survive a similar botched first half of the season as in the previous season. So it’s all the more important that we get the season off to a good start this time. If this succeeds, I’m cautiously optimistic that we’ll succeed in the third attempt.
