To ensure that not everyone has a holiday at the same time, the Netherlands is divided into three regions: north, center and south. This distribution should prevent roads, campsites and amusement parks from becoming overcrowded. To ensure that you can go away with your family or friends from another region, the school holidays overlap by a few weeks.
The summer holidays, autumn holidays and spring holidays are always rotated. For the summer holidays, this is done according to a fixed system: middle – late – late – middle – early – early – and so on. In this way, a region may be the first or last to act twice in a row. This is necessary, because otherwise the school year will suddenly become very short or very long.
