On Friday, Borussia will continue in the Bundesliga after a short winter break. She may have to forego her support.

Borussia Dortmund may have to do without goalkeeper Gregor Kobel at the start of the year. As several media outlets unanimously report, the 28-year-old left the Black and Yellows’ training camp in Marbella due to illness. BVB reacted immediately and had U23 goalkeeper Silas Ostrzinski flown in. The 22-year-old trained with the team for the first time on Wednesday morning.

In the past few days, Swiss national goalkeeper Kobel (19 international matches) has only been able to train to a limited extent – either individually or on a reduced scale. It is therefore uncertain whether he can be in goal in the away game at Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday evening (8.30 p.m./live on Sky and Sat.1 as well as in the t-online ticker).

Alexander Meyer would be available as a representative. Kobel has appeared in all 24 competitive games so far this season. In the league, BVB has the second-best defense with only twelve goals conceded behind Bayern Munich (11). Kobel, who impressed with strong performances and kept his net clean in eight of 15 league games, played a big part in this.

Dortmund will travel directly from Marbella to Frankfurt on Thursday. With 32 points from 15 games, BVB starts the remaining round in second place in the table and is doing better at this point than it has in seven years.

Just a few days ago in the training camp, Kobel was correspondingly confident about the rest of the season: “We have a very good starting situation and we can also be encouraged by the fact that we have already collected this number of points. We have to continue what has made us strong.” Whether he can help directly will probably only be decided in the near future.
