Washington (dpa -Afx) – The mood of the mood of consumers in the United States surprisingly clouded out in September. The consumer indicator fell by 3.6 points to 94.2 points, the market research institute Conference Board said in Washington on Tuesday. This is the lowest level since April 2025. Economists had expected a less clear decline to 96.0 points.

Consumers rate their current situation significantly worse. But expectations also clouded something.

“The assessment of consumers with regard to the terms and conditions was significantly less positive than in the past few months,” said Stephanie Guichard, economist at the Conference Board. In addition, the assessment of the current employment situation fell for the ninth month in a row ./Jsl/he
