Women’s next World Cup takes place in Brazil. But what about the tournaments afterwards? Apparently there is now also clarity on this question.

The hosts of the Women’s World Championships 2031 and 2035 have apparently been determined. As FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced at the UEFA Congress in Belgrade, there was only a valid application for the two tournaments at the end of the deadline for expressions of interest. The upcoming exhibitions are likely to take place in the United States and the United Kingdom.

For the 2031 tournament, an application “from the USA potentially with other Concacaf members” had been received, said Infantino. Mexico is considered a likely partner. According to FIFA, the application for 2035 comes from Europe, more precisely from the four football associations of the United Kingdom – from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

“The World Championships will take place in great nations to boost women’s football,” said Infantino. As with men, the number of participants will increase in the future – from 32 to 48 teams.

The United States had already publicly signaled its interest in organizing the 2031 World Cup. China, Japan and South Africa had also been acted as potential applicants, but apparently no valid expression of interest from these countries.

In February, the British associations announced that they wanted to apply together around 2035. This was preceded by a decision by the FIFA Council to carry out the World Cup in Europe or Africa. Spain, too, had also taken into account an application with Portugal and Morocco – but this constellation is now apparently off the table.

The next World Cup will take place in Brazil in 2027. Then with 32 teams. Germany had applied with Belgium and the Netherlands, but was inferior. For the upcoming world tournaments, the DFB waived a further application – and instead focuses on the European Championship 2029.
