“I’m still keeping the option open of adding a tournament in Europe that’s a bit closer to my family and friends – but generally this is my last tournament.”, Andrea Petkovic explains emotionally in an interview with the sports show on the sidelines of the US Open in New York on Sunday (08/28/2022). She added: “Maybe it’s already over here in New York.”

The decision stands. Talking about it is still difficult for her. She did not provide any information on the reasons and the time. She wants to talk more about her decision on Monday

A few days ago, the 34-year-old cryptically posted a training video on Instagram with the caption “The last dance”. Now the official confirmation followed.

Her greatest success: semi-finals at the French Open 2014

Petkovic has won a total of nine WTA Tour titles since her debut pro season in 2006. In 2011, after two quarterfinals at the Australian Open and the US Open, she reached her best place in the world rankings with 9th place.

The Darmstadt native celebrated her greatest success in Paris in 2014 when she was only eliminated in the semi-finals of the French Open. She was in the final with the German Fed Cup team in 2014 and lost to the Czech Republic in Prague. In total she played 18 matches for Germany and won 13 singles.

Petkovic has been moderating for ZDF for several years. In addition, the Darmstadt native, who also lives in New York, published her first book “Between Glory and Honor Lies the Night” in 2020.
