“This attack will weaken IS’s ability to destabilize the region and hit our troops and partners,” General Michael Kurilla said.
The US military also assures that, according to information available to it, “no civilians were killed or injured during this operation.”
On Wednesday evening, US forces had already killed another IS leader in a helicopter operation in northeast Syria, the US command said earlier.
The US continues to target the leadership of the jihadist group, which, despite its defeat in Iraq in 2017 and Syria in 2019, continues to carry out attacks through dormant cells in both countries.
