Iranian delegates who take part in the United Nations summit this week must not go shopping in New York in New York. A corresponding order from the US government limits the acquisition of a number of products, from cosmetics in wholesale to luxury watches.
These restrictions were called the spokesman: in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the policy of “maximum pressure”. Donald Trump’s government exerts this pressure on Tehran to achieve concessions in the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
“We will not allow the Iranian regime to have its clerical elites shop in New York, while the Iranian people suffer from poverty, decaying infrastructure and a serious lack of water and electricity,” said Thomas Pigott, the spokesman for the US State Department.
The measure prohibits Iranian delegates access to shops such as Costco, Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale Club. This emerges from a message published on Tuesday in the federal register.
In this message, the White House informs the delegates from Tehran that they have to obtain approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to buy “luxury items”.
The list of products subject to approval includes watches, electronic devices and fountain pen if their value exceeds $ 1,000 (930 euros). Vehicles with a value of over $ 60,000 (55,800 euros) are also on the list of luxury goods.
The Iranian economy was strongly hit by the US sanctions. These have affected the imports of a number of products as well as to export to Tehrans, oil and other goods.
