US central bank cuts interest rates, but investors are frightened by forecasts: Wall Street closes significantly lower

The US central bank (Federal Reserve or Fed) cut interest rates on Wednesday for the third time since September, this time by 25 basis points. The interest rate in the US now fluctuates between 4.25 and 4.50 percent: one percentage point lower than at the start of the series of interest rate cuts. This cut was generally expected, but investors appear to have been shocked by the forecasts: the stock markets in New York closed considerably lower on Wednesday.
