US and South Korea launch missiles in response to North Korean missile test

The United States and North Korea fired a series of rockets into the sea during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in response to a North Korean missile test, international news agencies report. The two countries also practiced precision bombing in the Yellow Sea west of the Korean peninsula.

On Tuesday, North Korea fired a ballistic missile, hitting Japanese territory for the first time in five years. The North Korean missile is said to have traveled the longest distance ever. A “dangerous and reckless” act, America responded. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol also called the test “reckless” and promised a strong response.

One of the South Korean launches failed. A rocket crashed shortly after launch, causing a fire, Reuters news agency reported. The explosive charge that was on the rocket did not explode. The South Korean government has apologized for the incident.
