A sad message from Ursem, where Hannes Paauw passed away. He suffered from an aggressive form of soft tissue cancer and was only 23 years old. Family, friends and acquaintances came into action on February 5, during ‘Hollen voor Hannes’. The campaign was a great success and raised 38 thousand euros.
The death was announced on the Instagram page of ‘Hollen voor Hannes’. “He has deteriorated rapidly in recent days. He had already made the choice for euthanasia himself, but was eventually released from his suffering on his own.”
During ‘Hollen voor Hannes’, about 200 people walked 8 kilometers, including many residents of Ursem. The bet was placed on 3000 euros, but more than 10 times as much fetched. The money donated will be used for soft tissue cancer research.
The help came too late for Hannes himself, but the fact that so many people took action gave him a good feeling. You can still donate.
In May 2021, Hannes was diagnosed with soft tissue cancer. A rare form of cancer that also behaved more aggressively in Hannes than expected. Further treatment was unsuccessful and just before Christmas it became clear that there was nothing more doctors could do for him.
“We are so proud of him and grateful for all the love he leaves us,” the family said.
