FC Bayern apparently wants to get Jonas Urbig from the Rhine to the Isar as quickly as possible. The player and club should be in agreement, but there is a problem with the transfer fee. Lothar Matthäus is now expressing his doubts about the goalkeeper transfer.
According to Sky, FC Bayern is pushing to sign Jonas Urbig from 1. FC Köln immediately. The players and club have already reached an oral agreement, but there are still problems in the negotiations between Effzeh and the Munich team.
The people of Munich are prepared to pay a transfer fee of 6.5 to 7 million euros for the 21-year-old, while at Geißbockheim they are planning to have fixed income of 8 million euros, according to the TV station’s report.
U21 national goalkeeper Urbig started the second division season with 1. FC Köln as a regular goalkeeper, but lost his regular place to Marvin Schwäbe. In Munich he should take on the role of number 2 behind Manuel Neuer – who is almost certainly extending his contract until 2026.
According to the Bayern bosses, the current Neuer deputy, Daniel Peretz, should be loaned out as soon as possible in order to gain match practice – even if the Israeli apparently has other plans.
FC Bayern “not just any club that takes a risk”
Lothar Matthäus is skeptical about the transfer. “Of course he can learn from Manuel Neuer for another year and a half, but: He didn’t manage to assert himself at 1. FC Köln in the 2nd Bundesliga. With him, Cologne weren’t where they are now in the table,” said the TV expert in the “Sky 90” group.
Urbig is “of course a talented goalkeeper, he also played in the U21, but still: Bayern Munich is Bayern Munich and not just any club that takes a risk.”
Urbig still has a contract with 1. FC Köln until 2026. The goalkeeper jewel has played ten league games for Cologne so far, in which he conceded 20 goals.
Matthäus Urbig trusts the youngster to take on the role of new first team at Bayern. But: “If Neuer should stop in 2026 – he will probably extend it again for another year – then they will have to reach for a real number one with experience and success on another shelf. That’s another house number.”
