UPS stock gains: UPS posts billions in profits in third quarter

The bottom line in the third quarter was a profit of almost 2.6 billion US dollars (a good 2.6 billion euros) and thus around eleven percent more than a year earlier, like the competitor from FedEx and Deutsche Post DHL on Tuesday in Atlanta communicated. That was significantly more than what analysts expected on average. Sales, on the other hand, increased by just over four percent to just under $24.2 billion. Without the significantly increased unit prices, the proceeds would have fallen.

United Parcel Service once again increased sales particularly strongly in its home market of the USA. The average revenue per shipment rose by almost ten percent. As a result, the division’s total sales increased by a good eight percent. In the international parcel business, each consignment yielded an average of over six percent more. However, total sales grew by less than two percent. In supply chain logistics, UPS even had to accept a drop in sales of more than six percent.

For the full year, UPS leadership continues to target sales of about $102 billion. About 13.7 percent of this should remain as adjusted operating profit.

UPS shares temporarily rose 3.21 percent to $172.93 in NYSE trading.
