With “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul”, Vince Gilligan managed to develop two of the formative series of the 21st century. Not to forget that he was already part of the creative team at “Files X”. His next series project is therefore already hot. In other words: pressure and expectations are huge.
So far, far too little is known about the project, which at IMDB as a “Untitled Vince Gilligan Apple TV+ Series”. According to “Deadline”, the first working title is “Wycaro 339”. A plot approach has not yet been heard. But as Gilligan already made clear in interviews, drugs and crimes don’t matter this time.
This is not surprising, after all, the showrunner had declared the story about Walter White and Saul Goodman over. Instead, the new series will have a “sci-fi element,” Gilligan told Variety. “It will be funny and completely different. I have no idea how people will react to it – whether they love or hate it, or somewhere in between. But I know it is a story that interests me … “
New series from Vince Gilligan is playing again in Albuquerque
Interestingly, the show will play again and Albuquerque, just in a completely different world. Gilligan added: “The world changes very abruptly in the first episode, and then everything is very different. It is the modern world – the world we live in – but it changes very quickly. And hopefully the consequences that result from this will provide many, many episodes afterwards. ”
Sounds like an update of “Twilight Zone” with a little more humor and philosophical tendencies.
One thing is certain: “Better Call Saul” star and Rhea Seehorn will be there. However, her role is completely different from a lawyer and Saul friend Kim Wexler. This time Seehorn does not play an antihero.
The Emmy winner revealed to the “Hollywood Reporter”: “The series fluctuates between the genres and emotional tones how he and Peter Gould did it with ‘Better Call Saul’, but now it is even more pronounced. I mention this because he has no problem that this series differs from the mother series ‘Breaking Bad’. It does not have to be able to return to a predecessor. “
There is no trailer or at least photos of the set yet. However, Vince Gilligan announced that the start should be in 2025, “in summer or a little later”.
