The controversy surrounding the Natural Park anticipates a clash that will escalate and the national leadership will not stand out: it will give full support to Moreno in his battle with Moncloa despite the judicial and Brussels threat

At the start of the electoral campaign, the Doñana political crisis It has already become a new chapter of confrontation between the PP and the Government of Pedro Sánchez. The water war was called to be one of the main battles of 28-M, but the relevance that the controversy around the Natural Park now acquires (the Executive has entered fully warning that it will go to the Constitutional Court and Brussels warns of possible fines ) anticipates that the shock will last.

Neither in the communities governed by the PSOE nor in those of the PP there is a consensus on the transfers. Genoa, for its part, tries to maintain a balance in its position that avoids internal problems. The official one is to push a national water plan “without ideological criteria” if Alberto Núñez Feijóo arrives at Moncloa. It was his public commitment weeks ago in Murcia, one of the most affected regions, and it will be one of his great proposals for the general elections. However, in the strong Andalusian controversy, the leader of the PP has been clear and will endorse the battle of Juanma Moreno.

Criticism of the PP’s decision (also of Vox, which supports the proposal to legalize more irrigation, expanding hectares for strawberries after the reclassification of some land) is shared by practically all the experts and scientists who have spoken. The main complaint is the speed with which it intends to be made in the worst time of drought that is remembered in decades.

And despite all this, Feijóo opted for don’t beat around the bush: “The Junta de Andalucía wants to find solutions, preserving the jewel of the park and preserving the aquifers. The Government leaves hundreds of relatives who since 2014 have no solutions. And all he does is insult President Moreno.”

While the Executive raises the level of criticism of the Board, accusing Moreno of acting with the “arrogance of a gentleman & rdquor; and with Pedro Sánchez assuming the political message of “Doñana is not touched”, the leader of the PP took charge of the defense of his most relevant regional baron at this time: “The hydraulic policy of this Government is erratic. He only knows how to face communities without solving a single problem. Stop insulting and sit with the Board& rdquor ;, the PP leader said again.

In Genoa they recognize that the support for Moreno is “total & rdquor; and they assume that this battle will have to be fought from all fronts. The idea is to delegate the messages and the strategy to the Board, which is where they really, they warn, “they have the knowledge”. But the support will be displayed regardless of how much the government raises its tone.

Andalusia is a key territory for the PP. As he published this newspaper, Feijóo entrusts himself to the Andalusian results to consolidate his chances of reaching Moncloa. In fact, the next municipal elections in May will be essential to find out if Moreno manages to repeat his success at the regional elections in the cities and municipalities; and clearly test the municipal force of the PP as a whole.

Taking into account that in the Community of Madrid it will be for the popular, Catalonia will show significant support for the PSC (with an almost non-existent PP yet) and the Valencian Community in a certain tie, the power that Andalusia distributes will be very revealing for the popular. And that is why in the national leadership they also close ranks with Moreno.

It is not the first time that an autonomous community of the PP confronts face to face with the central government. Isabel Díaz Ayuso leads the most notorious cases since the management of the pandemic. But the fiscal policy of Andalusia, and before that of Madrid, has already been the target of confrontation with Moncloa. On this last issue, Feijóo immediately sided with his regional presidents. In other debates such as the health debate in the capital, there have been spells of more or less public support, although there has never been a disavowal.

In the case of Doñana, and despite the delicate nature of the situation with the European Commission showing signs of possible sanctions, the decision has been made: there will be full support for Moreno.
