TV expert: “Indication of poverty”

Dayot Upamecano probably wants to extend his contract with FC Bayern

Updated 02/02/2026 – 7:47 p.mReading time: 1 min.

Dayot Upamecano is said to have accepted FC Bayern’s contract offer – even though the deadline had already passed. Didi Hamann is beside himself.

As Sky and the “Bild” newspaper report, Dayot Upamecano wants to extend his contract with FC Bayern until 2030. According to Sky, the contract is expected to be signed later this week.

The Munich team had offered the central defender an annual salary of around 20 million euros, 20 million euros in hand money and an exit clause of 65 million euros. But until the end he hesitated to accept the offer. One reason was probably that the Upamecano side wanted to receive the earnest money as a one-off payment, according to the “Bild” newspaper, while the Munich side wanted to spread the sum over the term of the contract.

As Sky and “Bild” report, Bayern withdrew the offer in writing today. However, Upamecano is said to have subsequently made it clear that he would definitely like to extend the contract. The 27-year-old has not yet signed an official new contract.

Sky expert Didi Hamann doesn’t see the extension as a success: “That’s a disgrace. If they withdraw the offer, he won’t be able to accept it,” he rumbled. The 52-year-old would have ordered the Frenchman a lot more to the office and made him a new offer – but it would have been significantly lower. Because he would have had two months to accept the offer.

“A club can’t show greater weakness. That shows how weak FC Bayern is,” criticized Hamann.
