At this year’s Deichbrand Festival, a headliner Macklemore should appear-due to statements and songs by the US rapper, the Central Council of Jews therefore assesses the Open Air as an insecure place for Jews.
From July 17th to 20th, the annual festival near Cuxhaven will start. As a rule, around 60,000 music enthusiasts are expected there. In 2025 appearances by KIZ, Kontra K, Deichkind, Ski Aggu, Paula Hartmann and Macklemore are planned. The 41-year-old rapper from Kent, Washington, is even mentioned as the main act for the event.
“At rapper Macklemore, pop culture meets anti -Semitism”
But Macklemore, who is called Benjamin “Ben” Hammond Haggerty, is controversial due to his political positioning. He constantly spoke up to Israel and with “Hind’s Hall” and “Hind’s Hall 2” he published two Pro-Palestinian songs, but in which there was no deeper contextualization. The Central Council of Jews has now publicly stated that it would perceive the US artist as someone who would operate “propaganda”, so there is the “Nordsee newspaper”. In her opinion, it would be fatal that Macklemore was allowed to play during the dike fire, because: “The invitation sends a sobering signal: anti -Semitism is desired on the big stage.”
According to the “Nordsee-Zeitung”, the Central Council of Jews formulates even more drastic: “The dike fire festival is therefore no longer a safe place for Jews.” And further: “Pop culture meets anti -Semitism at the rapper Macklemore,” said a representative of the council. One would be convinced that the rapper would be trapped the Holocaust and would also be celebrated uncritically.
This is how the festival event ends
According to the “Bild”, the dike fire organizers have to say: “To offer a stage to an anti-Semite with Macklemore with Macklemore:” Discrimination, including anti-Semitism, racism, sexism (…), we do not tolerate. ” You would continue to deal with the criticism that you would take very seriously.
