Many Amsterdam students have spent days in the library. “In my thesis period I was here every day for three months,” one of the students explains. He is now in the library to work on the defense of his thesis. “In the end it was nice here. I sat here quite often in the evening with assignments that still had to be done and that I could probably have tackled before. Yet it is a kind of bittersweet memory that I have to do with it. ”

Another student laughs. She has studied every week for four years, but mainly remembers the runs outside. “Especially a lot of smoking with friends and keeping a break for too long, I think. That, but I also worked hard.”

Classic facades

Yet there are also quite a few Amsterdammers who find the building very ugly from the outside. The facade with the main entrance stands out with its gray, sleek appearance with the adjacent classic historical facades. That it is a building that has both positive and negative feelings, knows professor of book science & manuscript science of the Middle Ages, Jos Biemans too. He wrote a book about the library and knows everything about the building and their facades.
