In January, the only presidential limousine ever to end up in private hands, the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham used by Bill Clinton, will go up for auction in Florida

Among the stars of the Mecum Kissimmee 2025 auction, in addition to highly prized pieces such as the Porsche 917 K driven by Steve McQueen in the film “Le Mans” and the first road-going Ford GT40 in history, there is also a real presidential limousine. This is a unique case in the history of auctions: every other armored vehicle used to transport the president of the United States has remained government property. Specifically, the presidential limousine that will be auctioned by Mecum is one 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Broughampart of a fleet of three cars intended for the protection of the 42nd president of the United States, Bill Clinton.

the car

The example up for auction was completed in 1996, after spending 2 million dollars at the time (equivalent to 3,800,000 euros today) to transform the luxury sedan derived from it, the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, into a limousine with B6 level armor. This includes 7.6 centimeter thick glass, run-flat tyres, a built-in fire prevention system and numerous reinforcements designed to make the car impenetrable, thus protecting the president in the event of attacks of any kind. The wheelbase exceeds 4.25 meters, while the overall length is 6.85 meters. What drives it is a 7.4 liter V8 engine developed by the tuner Jack Roush, who in the case of this specific example has only 1,007 km. It will be auctioned on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida.
