The Dutch national team will meet the United States in the eighth finals of the World Cup on Saturday. The Americans won their last group match against Iran 1-0 and therefore finished second in group B, behind England. Christian Pulisic scored the goal in Doha a few minutes before the break on a pass from former Ajax player Sergiño Dest.

The Dutch secured first place in group A earlier in the day with a win against Qatar (2-0). The team of national coach Louis van Gaal took 7 points from three games. Senegal finished second with 6 points and will face England in the eighth finals on Sunday evening. The losing finalist of the European Championship defeated Wales 3-0 to win group B by 7 points. The Americans finished on 5 points, after previous draws against Wales (1-1) and England (0-0).
