Sinterklaas’ steamship is already waiting for his crew in the port of Den Oever tonight. Now that Christmas Eve has been celebrated, Saint Nicholas and his Pieten return to Spain in the dark. Atmospheric lighting can be seen on the quay and appropriate music is played.
When Santa arrives, he shakes the children’s hands and then gets on board. The children present and their parents see something that no one normally sees: the departure of Santa Claus.
