Union Berlin’s bone injured: Bonucci against Real Madrid before debut

Would be the 85th CL game for the Italians

1. FC Union Berlin has to make do without Robin Knoche (31) for its Champions League premiere. The head of defense did not travel to Madrid because of an injury, coach Urs Fischer reported on Tuesday at the Bundesliga club’s press conference at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Leonardo Bonucci (36) is likely to play in the “Iron” jersey for the first time against Real Madrid on Wednesday (6.45 p.m./DAZN).

The Italian European champion moved from Juventus to Union just over two weeks ago. Fischer described Bonucci’s deployment as “a possibility” – in the “premier class” it would be the veteran’s 85th. As usual, Union did not disclose how long Bone would be out and what injury the 31-year-old sustained.

“It will be a great task. I think we have to look forward to this task,” said Fischer about the game against the record champions. You have to act “maturely” against Real and “make a lot of good decisions,” said Fischer. “This is a unique story. We’re looking forward to it,” said Captain Christopher Trimmel (36). The “Irons” qualified for the Champions League for the first time as fourth in the Bundesliga last season.
