Injury shock at Union – and next defeat for Eta

Fifth win in a row for RB Leipzig – the Saxons are still on course for the Champions League with an easy 3:1 (2:0) win against Union Berlin. Max Finkgräfe (22nd), Rômulo (25th) and Ridle Baku (63rd) scored for the hosts at the start of the 31st Bundesliga matchday on Friday evening, Danilho Doekhi (78th) scored the consolation goal for the Berliners, who had been harmless for a long time.
Leipzig is now consolidating third place with 62 points, Union could slip even deeper into the fight to stay in the league with another 32 points in 11th place.
Rômulo (9th) had the first big chance after great preliminary work from Yan Diomandé. First Union goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow, who had fallen out, saved the ball, then András Schäfer, who was in the starting line-up with Janik Haberer, headed the rebounding ball out of bounds from the goal line.
Union was very deep from the start and relied more on quick reversal play via the strong sprinter ex-Leipziger Oliver Burke. After a strong attack from Leipzig’s Diomandé down the right side, Rönnow was able to defend towards the middle, where Leopold Querfeld headed the ball directly at the feet of Finkgräfe (22′). He took the lead with his first RB goal. Then Rômulo cleverly increased with a lob (25th) when Querfeld wanted to clear a shot from RB keeper Maarten Vandevoordt to Rönnow.
