Liverpool also benefited
The sale of Taiwo Awoniyi is official. After Union Berlin started preparing for the Bundesliga season without the Nigerian at the beginning of the week, the transfer to Nottingham Forest was confirmed. The newly promoted Premier League pays the exit clause of a rumored 20.5 million euros – making the attacker the most expensive departure in the history of the “Iron”. Awoniyi has signed in England until 2027.
So far, Union has never received more than 6.5 million euros, which flowed into the Berlin coffers in 2021 for Robert Andrich (27, Bayer 04) and 2020 for Sebastian Andersson (30, Cologne). “It’s a nice sum, I have to say. For us, that would be a departure into a whole new dimension,” said sports director Oliver Ruhnert in April at “DAZN” about a possible sale of Awoniyi.

Meanwhile, the full amount does not end up in the capital. Liverpool FC reportedly secured a 10 percent stake in the next fee from last summer’s sale, which made Awoniyi the most expensive Union purchase.
Welcome to Nottingham Forest, Taiwo Awoniyi.
