Münster's Oliver Batista-Meier celebrates his goal with his teammates

As of: March 2, 2026 • 12:00 a.m

Preußen Münster increased their chances of staying in the league with an away win at Eintracht Braunschweig. Eintracht goalkeeper Elhan Kastrati celebrated an unfortunate debut.

Eintracht’s Lukas Frenkert gave Braunschweig the lead in the 1-2 defeat (56′), Jorrit Hendrix scored to make it 1-1 (71′), Oliver Batista-Meier made it 2-1 (74′). Münster’s Paul Jaeckel also saw yellow-red (88th).

For Münster it was the first win after nine games without a sense of success. Coach Alexander Ende’s team, which was the worst away team in the 2nd league so far, moved up to 13th place in the table and can take a breather for now. The people of Braunschweig, on the other hand, are coming under increasing pressure due to this home bankruptcy. Lower Saxony slipped to relegation place 16.

Backhaus struggles, ends happily

“We played a good game, but missed scoring the second goal after 1-0. Then out of nowhere we get 1-1 and then 2-1. Performance and result don’t match.”said Braunschweig’s coach Heiner Backhaus on the ARD microphone: “These are the games we have to play.”

Münster’s coach Alexander Ende was happy about the three important points in the interview. “I was extremely happy for the boys that they rewarded themselves today”he said: “Hopefully this is the starting signal for more.”

Rondic with chances for Münster

The afternoon was particularly annoying for Elhan Kastrati. Kastrati, who was called into goal in place of the injured regular goalkeeper and captain Ron-Thorben Hoffmann, actually showed a solid performance on his debut – and yet made a decisive contribution to Preußen Münster’s 2-1 (0-0) win against Eintracht Braunschweig.

Coach Heiner Backhaus had never been able to see the 29-year-old Kastrati, who came to Lower Saxony from the Italian Serie B in the summer, in a competitive game – but still trusted him. And Kastrati looked solid for long stretches – but his lack of match practice was noticeable in two scenes.

It took 15 minutes before Kastrati had to intervene for the first time. The Braunschweig keeper rushed out of his goal and was able to grab the ball that was pushed too far by the very conspicuous Münster attacker Imad Rondic.

After 22 minutes, Kastrati had to intervene again after Rondic again headed the ball unchallenged from seven meters. But the Albanian was just as there as he was a few minutes later when he courageously intercepted a dangerous Münster cross.

misunderstanding with Bell Bell

However, Kastrati had a huge dose of luck when he rushed out of his goal shortly before half-time almost to the halfway line and teammate Léon Bell Bell overlooked him. However, the midfielder hit the arm of Münster’s Oliver Batista-Meier while trying to clear the ball at the last second and the Prussia attacker’s subsequent hit after VAR intervention did not count.

And Kastrati’s front people? They missed four good opportunities to take the lead in the first round through Erencan Yardımcı, Kevin Ehlers, Mehmet Aydın and Salomon Nkoa.

Frenkert scores with his head

In the second half, the Braunschweig goalkeeper’s skills were particularly in demand as an additional passing point because Eintracht was putting increasing pressure on the Prussians. The result: After a corner, Frenkert scored to make it 1-0.

And yet Kastrati still had to reach behind himself twice. After a relief attack from the Münster team on the right side, Hendrix was completely free to shoot in the Braunschweig penalty area and shot the ball unstoppably from twelve meters into the far corner to make it 1-1.

Batista-Meier dupes Kastrati

And just three minutes later outwitted Batista Meier Kastrati with a direct free kick from the right corner of the penalty area to make it 2-1. The goalkeeper had probably expected a cross into the penalty area.

In the remaining minutes, the Braunschweig team ran continuously and Münster defended with all their might. Münster’s Paul Jaeckel saw yellow-red after a tough start against Braunschweig’s Grant-Leon Ranos – but that didn’t change anything about the Prussians’ victory.
