Move to the MLS
The former Bundesliga professional and current coach at MLS club Los Angeles FC, Steven Cherundolo, can look forward to another new signing from Europe after Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini: Left winger Cristian Tello, who trained at FC Barcelona, is coming to the “City of Angel”.
The contract of the 31-year-old offensive player at Betis Sevilla, where Tello moved from the Catalans in 2017 for a fee of 4 million euros, expired on July 1, 2022 and was not extended. Overall, the Spaniard, who played one international for La Furia Roja in 2013 and also appeared at club level for Fiorentina and FC Porto, has made 199 LaLiga appearances (52 goals) and 51 Serie A appearances ( 16 goal contributions). With a market value of 5 million euros, Tello is now the fourth most valuable player in the Cherundolo squad (overview).
“Cristian is a dangerous attacker and fits perfectly with what we are building at LAFC,” said John Thorrington, vice-president and general manager of the club, adding: “He has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world and has been in high-pressure situations like the champions league successful. We look forward to welcoming him, his wife and family to LA as we continue to work towards our ultimate goal of winning the league.” Tello has signed an initial contract for the 2022 season, according to the club, but LAFC has an additional one option for the next two seasons.
