Under-21 international Lazar Samardzic opts for Serbia

It’s a shame, he’s been one of my favorite talents in Germany for a few years. I had the pleasure of watching him two or three times in Berlin at U17/U19 games. And my God, in terms of ball handling, technical finesse and shooting technique, he was a feast for the eyes at the time and in that respect the greatest talent in the North East, if not nationwide. Unfortunately, he has already suffered a very bitter cruciate ligament tear, which has certainly slowed down his development a bit.

I’m happy that he has obviously found the right environment in Udine for steady development and I hope he stays healthy and in shape. In my opinion, he has what it takes to play a fundamentally important role as a creative player for Serbia’s N11. But of course, part of it is that he continues to develop at club level. I always like to compare Samardzic with Szoboszlai, both are very similar types of players in my opinion. Musiala and Wirtz are fine dribblers with huge offensive power and creative force, but Samardzic would have brought the element of extraordinary shooting technique and standard strength that Wirtz and Musiala don’t have. See Samardzic’s free kick a few months ago at the U21s.

It’s a shame for the DFB, but well, Musiala and Wirtz are a consolation that is second to none

Good luck to Lazar Samardzic. Always nice to see when a Berliner makes his way into professional football strong
