Unbelievable: Excelsior hard-handedly ends undefeated series FC Volendam

FC Volendam had to swallow a hard defeat against competitor Excelsior. After half an hour it was already 0-4, after which the leader came back to 2-4. Michael Chacon made the decisive 2-5 deep in stoppage time. Due to this result, a series of 26 games without defeat for FC Volendam has come to an end.

Just before the start of the match, FC Volendam had to deal with the first setback: Benaissa Benamar dropped out injured in the warm-up and was replaced by Mike Eerdhuijzen.

From the first whistle from referee Nagtegaal, things went completely wrong for the home team. Kenzo Goudmijn opened the scoring after two minutes. The midfielder, who is rented from AZ, cut Oskar Buur out and hit. After a great save by Filip Stanković on a shot by Reuven Niemeijer, the team from Rotterdam seemed to double the margin very quickly. A long shot from Redouan el Yaakoubi went into the goal via Sven Nieuwpoort, but that goal was disallowed due to hands.

Dallinga – Muhren

Not much later, the 0-2 was still on the board. Niemeijer made it. Thijs Dallinga pushed Volendam even deeper into trouble after eighteen minutes by scoring from behind the standing leg: 0-3. It was the thirtieth goal of the top scorer of the first division.

The home team never got into the game and saw Marouan Azarkan even make it 0-4 after half an hour. In the counterpunch, the Volendam team received a penalty. After a foul on Dary van Mieghem, Robert Mühren converted the penalty: 1-4, his 23rd goal this season.

In the second half FC Volendam managed to bring the tension back into the game. Boy Deul changed a header from substitute Alex Plat in such a way that the ball disappeared into the goal: 2-4.

Offensive not enough

The eel farmers kept knocking on the door. There were opportunities for Van Mieghem (long shot) and Mühren (header). A messy situation in front of Excelsior’s goal was also narrowly defended.

In the counterpunch, Stankovic saved on a shot by Couhaib Driouech. Volendam did not succeed in making the connecting goal. In stoppage time, the loss became even more sour for the team of trainer Wim Jonk, because Michael Chacon made 2-5. With this, Excelsior gave FC Volendam its first league defeat since August 13 last year when ADO Den Haag won 3-1.

FC Volendam remains the leader, but closest attacker FC Emmen has come closer to two points. The two teams will play each other next Monday. You can of course follow that duel live in an extra radio broadcast of NH Sport.
