UN raises alarm about corona in unvaccinated North Korea

The United Nations is sounding the alarm over the growing corona outbreak in communist North Korea, where the unvaccinated population is particularly vulnerable. The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) reiterated its offer of assistance and vaccination.

The WHO warns that the highly contagious omikron variant could easily advance with disastrous consequences for the impoverished country. The UN human rights agency, for its part, points out that the authorities’ drastic measures against corona infections could violate rights and push vulnerable people into an even worse situation.

Since North Korea reported its first corona case a week ago, 56 corona deaths have been counted, according to the state news agency, and nearly 1.5 million cases of what is called a fever there have been reported.
