Borussia Dortmund experienced a disastrous evening at Holstein Kiel. After the embarrassing 4-2 defeat, there was great frustration not only on the pitch.

This game heated up the minds of BVB fans. The 4-2 defeat at newly promoted Holstein Kiel upset the most loyal supporters so much that they took the players to task after the end of the game.

The Ultras tried to talk to the BVB professionals in front of the guest block. When a fan representative climbed over the fence to speak to the team, security intervened first. But captain Emre Can and his teammates signaled that dialogue was desired.

An intensive conversation followed between the Ultra representative and the players Can, Nico Schlotterbeck, Serhou Guirassy and Waldemar Anton. It was mainly about the disappointing performance and the lack of effort. The frustration was great – just a few months earlier, fans and players had celebrated a success together in the Champions League.

Captain Emre Can was also self-critical: “It’s not the coach’s fault, I would like to emphasize again. We players, me at the front, it doesn’t work that way. We can’t play like that. We have to change that as quickly as possible. That also has something to do with it honor to do.”

Coach Nuri Şahin shared the disappointment: “It’s shameful how we performed. Not worthy of a club like Borussia Dortmund. From the first to the last minute. There’s nothing more to say about that.”

The next game is scheduled for Friday: Dortmund have to play against top team Eintracht Frankfurt. A win is mandatory given the current table situation and in the fight for the Champions League places. If Borussia, who are chronically weak away from home (only one win in eight games), do not succeed in this, the already tense mood around the district club and especially among the fans threatens to deteriorate further.
