In the third game of the finals of the basketball Bundesliga, the Munich team received a bitter defeat. 80 seconds change the game.
Ratiopharm Ulm brought itself into an excellent position in the final of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) with an away win at FC Bayern. The defending champion won 81:79 (37:42) in Munich on Saturday evening and now leads the best-of-five series 2-1. Already on Tuesday Ulm can make the second championship title in club history perfect at home. If the decision is postponed, it will fall in Munich on Thursday (both games 8:00 p.m.).
In the third game of the final series, the audience in the SAP Garden first saw a balanced game with changing runs. Ulm got off to a better start and took off to 11: 6 (7th minute) after a 9-0 run. The Bavarians countered directly in a row and led a little later with 16:11 (9th). In the second quarter, the Munich dominated in phases and pulled away to 39:28 – but Ulm could not be shaken off. Tobias Jensen was combative at the break at Dyn: You have to concentrate more on the details, but “quite neatly” came into play.
After the change of sides, Ulm consistently took advantage of a weak phase of Bayern. Within 80 seconds, the guests scored eight points at a time, Munich’s coach Gordon Herbert reacted with a break. As with the opening duel, the game developed into an open exchange of blows.
Ulm’s Justinian Jessup became the decisive factor. The American hit three important threesome in the final phase, including the equalization to 77:77 around one minute before the end. At 19 seconds on the clock, he sank another distance and then also scored from the free-wire line to 81: 79 final score. In total, Jessup got 22 points. Bayern no longer found an answer in the final seconds.
The schedule ensures conversation. Ulm had applied to the league to move game four and a possible fifth game. Reason: The appointments collide with the NBA draft, in which the Ulm Talente Noa Essengue and Ben Saraf have good chances of an early selection. Due to the overlap, a trip to the USA is not possible. The BBL rejected the application – Ulm criticized this decision several times.
