Harry Kane is one of the top performers at FC Bayern. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß already sees him among the club legends.
In his relatively short time at FC Bayern, Harry Kane has quickly earned a place among the club’s great strikers. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß even sees the Englishman on an equal footing with previous goalscorers.
“Of course we’ve had great ones with Gerd Müller and Giovane Elber and then of course with Robert Lewandowski. But Harry Kane is absolutely equal. I wouldn’t make any big differences,” said Hoeneß when asked where he would place Kane compared to previous Bayern stars.
He only puts Gerd Müller slightly above the others, Hoeneß continued. After all, the former national player became world champion and won many titles. Hoeneß is also impressed by Kane’s role on the pitch: “But what Harry Kane has been producing here for months or almost a year or two now is top notch.” He particularly appreciates that Kane not only acts in the penalty area, but also contributes as a playmaker and impresses as a personality.
Hoeneß is also very satisfied with the development of the entire team under coach Vincent Kompany. FC Bayern leads the table in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League. “I recently told Vincent when we met for dinner: It used to be that in the 80th minute you hoped that the game would be over soon. Now you’re in the 80th minute and you say, hopefully they’ll play for a long time because it’s so much fun. They’re having fun, the spectators are having fun and we in the stands are having fun too. And that’s actually the ideal situation at the moment, how you want to imagine FC Bayern,” said the club patron.
Hoeneß also found words of praise for the reserved nature of the Belgian coach. Kompany works quietly and does not offer the media any target. “He has two or three advantages,” said Hoeneß, “for example, that you have to work as a journalist again. Our previous coaches always gave you the template, which they could then discuss for weeks. That’s not possible with him because he wants to talk to you about football. That’s good for the whole of FC Bayern.”
