Liverpool won recently, but are having a mixed season. Bayern’s former president Uli Hoeneß feels for new signing Florian Wirtz.
After two defeats in a row, Liverpool FC secured a 2-0 win against West Ham United on Sunday. Florian Wirtz knew how to convince the fans and was voted player of the game. But the ex-Leverkusen player failed to score again. Striker Alexander Isak and winger Cody Gakpo scored on Sunday. Uli Hoeneß feels sorry for the DFB star, who is still waiting for his first goal for the “Reds”. The honorary president of FC Bayern sees the reason for this in the squad composition in Liverpool.
“Poor Florian Wirtz, he just can’t get the ball because Salah and Szoboszlai and all the others just want to play for themselves,” said the honorary president of FC Bayern at the “Power Days” in Munich’s Olympic Hall.
“I’ve said it before: they’ll soon need five balls to play because the stars all want him for themselves.” Hoeneß is of the opinion that there are “no workers” left in coach Arne Slot’s team, only “superstars” and that this would lead to Wirtz not getting the ball.
According to Hoeneß, this is why Liverpool’s season is so mixed. In the Premier League, the “Reds” are in eighth place with 21 points. The gap to leaders Arsenal is nine points.
Wirtz’s team has already suffered six defeats in the league this season. Liverpool also had to admit defeat twice in the Champions League: against Galatasaray (0:1) and most recently against PSV Eindhoven (1:4).
