The bombing took place in Chuhuiv, a city of about 30,000 inhabitants in eastern Ukraine. Olena Kourilo lives in an apartment building that was hit and she was injured. Photos of her with a bloodied face, bloodied hands and a bandaged head went viral.
“The building has been completely destroyed,” she now testifies on the French television station BFMTV. “There are no windows anymore and a door has even flown away. The floor is also completely torn.”
She realizes that she was very lucky. “I must have a good guardian angel that I’m still alive,” she says. “I will do everything for Ukraine now, everything I can, with all the energy I have in me. I will always and only stand on the side of my homeland.”
