Despite war
Despite the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the national football association wants to restart the championship in August. The decision to resume Premier League play, which was suspended on February 24, was made together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Association President Andriy Pavelko told the AP news agency. He also spoke to the heads of FIFA and UEFA to find a safe way for the country’s national teams to host their home games.
“I spoke to President Zelenskyy about the importance of football as a distraction,” said Pavelko. “From children to old people, everyone is focused on war. Every day they get information about deaths, about the effects of the war.” Football has great power so that people in Ukraine can believe in a future again.
