Ukraine to force more civilians to evacuate

The Ukrainian government is going to force civilians in more areas on the front lines of the war to evacuate. This was decided because these places could be occupied in the winter or could have problems with central heating, said Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk.

The evacuations will take place in the eastern region of Kharkov and in the south in Zaporizhia and Mykolaiv. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasizes that it is not about the entire regions, but specific districts. Preparations have started, according to Vereshchuk. She calls on citizens to cooperate and not to hope that Russian occupiers “show mercy” or adhere to international humanitarian law.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky announced a mandatory evacuation for civilians in the eastern Donetsk region in late July. That area is constantly being shelled by Russia and pro-Russian separatists. The evacuations have been carried out since this month.
