Ukraine loses standings in the Nations League

Ukraine’s national team has suffered a setback in its fight for direct promotion back to League A of the Nations League.

Coach Oleksandr Petrakov’s team lost on the fourth day of League B after a disappointing performance 0-3 (0-0) in Glasgow against Scotland.

Captain John McGinn (70′) and substitute Lyndon Dykes (80’/87′) scored for the superior hosts.

As a result, Scotland now have nine points in Group 1, overtaking Ukraine (7) and taking the lead in the standings. On Sunday, Ukraine take on Armenia while Scotland host Ireland.

At the end of the group phase there will be another duel on Tuesday in Krakow/Poland. Only the group winner advances.

The visitors never found their game at Hampden Park, where they won 3-1 in the World Cup play-offs in June.

Scotland ran, Che Adams initially failed on the crossbar (63rd). McGinn scored after a strong one-on-one action, Dykes each with a head.
