Born in Odessa, he is a former Ukrainian figure skater. Most recently, Viktor Petrenko was Vice President of the Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation (UFSF) – until now. Because the association fired the Olympic champion. The reason for this is an ice show in which he participated.
This was organized in Sochi by Tatjana Nawka. And this is exactly where the problem lies, because Navka is the wife of Dimitri Peskov, the spokesman for Russia’s ruler Vladimir Putin.
“Shameful Decision”
A statement by the UFSF states: “The Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation is outraged.” The statement goes on to say: “The former athlete made his shameful decision despite the bloody major war that Russia has been waging against Ukraine for the past five months.”
Petrenko won the gold medal at the 1992 Albertville Olympics and has lived in the United States since 1994. With regard to the Russian couple Nawka and Peskov, the European Union has now imposed an entry ban on the couple as part of the sixth sanctions package. In addition, accounts in EU countries and also in Great Britain were frozen.
