Always wanted to know what it feels like to look out as a lord or lady about your own estate? It is possible during the Whitsun weekend, because then is the day of the castle. On Friday 6 to Monday 9 June, more than 135 castles in the Netherlands will open the doors to the public.

During the Day of the Castle, managers and employees of the special locations tell everything about the history of their beloved place. In Zoetermeer we have no castles but in the neighborhood!

Day of the castle

In The Hague you can go to Villa and Buitenplaats Ockenburgh. On Monday 9 June you can get a tour between 11 am and 4 pm. Furthermore, children can play games and follow the gnome path. There is also music from a live band. You can also visit the garden of Oostduin on the Wassenaarseweg that Monday. There are guided tours all day long.

In Wassenaar you can go to De Wittenburg Castle. There you can discover the halls, castle tower and garden yourself. And also the Land on the Rijksstraatweg In Wassenaar is open. There are guided tours, a beekeeper tells about the bees, there is a plant market, lunch tasting and frog concert.

In Rijswijk is Estate in Werve Free accessible between 10.30 am and 5 pm. There are children’s activities and there is a bird of prey show at 3 p.m.

This edition is the theme Outsideand the focus is on all outdoor spaces of Dutch castles, country estates, ruins and estates.
