Nyon (dpa) – The European Football Union UEFA is providing one million euros through its foundation to support children in Ukraine and neighboring countries.

These funds are intended to finance initiatives by UEFA members and charities, the association said. The UEFA Foundation is also providing €100,000 in emergency aid for Ukrainian children and refugees. This money goes to the association in Moldova, which as a border state with Ukraine is already involved in refugee aid.

“Children are very vulnerable, especially in times of conflict, and it is our duty to help protect their fundamental rights and their health,” said UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, in his capacity as foundation chairman. “Thanks to the solidarity of European football and the support of our partners, we will be able to provide some of the help these children in Ukraine and neighboring countries desperately need.”
