The European Football Association is about to put the tournament organization in the hands of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland. That will become official around April 7, reports The Times† Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the deadline for countries to sign up for the organization, but no other offer has come in to UEFA so far. It is also expected that no more interested countries will come.
The European Championship has been held on English soil once before: in 1996. The next edition will be held in Germany. There, Italy hopes to extend the European title in the summer of 2024. There has been discussion for months about admitting 32 countries instead of 24. More clarity about this will become available in the near future.
