Udo Lindenberg and Apache 207 had a star named to celebrate the success of their joint song “Komet”. They baptized him like the song “Komet”.

The certificate for the nomination was officially presented to Lindenberg in the Hamburg planetarium, but only via a video switch, by Ulrich Hans Walter, a former astronaut and holder of the chair for space technology at the Technical University of Munich. In his speech he said: “Comets are the brilliance of our solar system, just like there are songs that make the music world shine.” Apache 207 was also connected via video and then joked with Lindenberg about a possible flight to “their” star .

Star designations vary according to their use and the registers in which the celestial bodies are listed. The arbitrary naming of stars is therefore a widespread practice. There are a number of reputable and less reputable vendors who sell sponsorships, dedications, or even naming for stars. Lindenberg holds a certificate in his hands, which was apparently issued by the provider “Star Baptism Germany”. The star’s “apparent magnitude” reported in the post is magnitude 3.96, which equates to good naked-eye visibility.

The real comet C/2022 E3 has been visible with luck and the naked eye over the northern hemisphere since January 24th and probably until the first days of February. Apache 207 and Udo Lindenberg released their song together on January 19th.
