Tomorrow afternoon Udine becomes the world capital of the high jump. The eighth edition of Udin Jump (from 4.30 pm at the Palabernes) presented jointly by the vice mayor Alessandro Venanzi and the councilor for Sport Chiara Dazzan was and will be christened by the champions: the legendary Cuban Javier Sotomayor, world record holder with 2.45, now a permanent presence, the former Friulian jumper from Pordenone Alessia Trost, but above all the ace Gimbo Tamberi, super guest of the event initially created by the jumper Alessandro Talotti and today essentially dedicated to his memory. His family, the local Fidal and the historic coach Mario Gasparetto carry forward the project with enthusiasm every year.

Tamberi took stock of his situation: “Los Angeles 2028 has become a new goal. For this reason I dedicated all of 2025 to fixing the knee that made me suffer so much. I stopped doing infiltrations. It was a long journey. It was useful not to perform, but in 2026 I want to start jumping again. And get back competitive in the summer with the Europeans.”

The Tokyo 2021 Olympic champion thanked the organizers, received a commemorative plaque from the municipality of Udine, and had kind words for Talotti. “The real reason why I’m here. I’ve only heard good things about him. I’m happy to be at this event, it means that something is being done for our discipline.” Today he will watch his heirs from the stands. There will be 11 men on the stage. From the strong Ukrainian Lavskyy (personal score of 2.29), to the Bulgarian Ivanov (2.31) to the American Kosiba (2.30) to the French reigning U20 European champion Pasquier (2.25). In short, the best, even at a youth level. Nine women. Among these is the Hungarian Lilianna Batori, reigning European U20 champion.
